Engineering Technician



Position Summary:


Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this person will perform a wide variety of duties that include prototyping (welding and assembly), troubleshooting, fixture creation, design assistance, and customer service field work.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Assists Engineering staff with the design of new parts, weldments, assemblies, and fixtures.

  • Visits dealers and end users to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

  • Develops and maintains a working knowledge of past and present Art’s Way equipment.

  • Communicates well within the Engineering Department, production staff, and parts room.

  • Maintains documentation of work performed and keeps track of inventory used in the R&D area.

  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.

  • The tasks listed above are not intended to limit other tasks that might reasonably be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Prefer Associates Degree in Industrial Mechanics or 2 years of experience in an Industrial manufacturing setting.

  • 2 years of welding experience and 1 year of assembly experience preferred.

  • Experience working with agricultural equipment required.

  • Fixture Design experience preferred.

  • Ability to read blueprints required.

  • Experience with troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis.

  • Experience with MRP systems and Bill of Material management desired.

  • Excellent verbal communication and , practical “hands-on” knowledge of mechanical components and systems

  • Ability to work flexible hours, travel to dealerships, and customers when needed.

  • Individual should be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision.

Physical Requirements:


  • Lift 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally

  • Ability to weld in different positions with a wire feed welder

  • Ability to work with arms above head, including removing items from overhead shelves

  • Ability to kneel on a frequent basis

  • Must be able to stand for a minimum of 8 hours per day
