Art’s Way V-180 Spreader Equipped with the Digi-Star® Nutrient Management System Article

Accurate manure application is becoming a necessity in today’s demanding environmental and economic climates. Between rising fertilizer prices, heavier governmental regulations and the push for transparency in food production, tracking each nutrient application has never been more important.

To meet the growers’ need for managed and increased transparency of manure application, Arts’ Way now offers a Digi-Star® NT460 nutrient management system as an option to its largest Roda V-series spreader, the V-180.

Working in tandem with the spreader, the Digi-Star® NT460 system uses on-the-go weight reading combined with travel speed and GPS coordinates to calculate and store the application for any field location.

“We understand the importance of lowering overhead costs in all facets of crop production,” said Brian Crouch, Director of Sales at Art’s Way. “Making available a GPS-based management system in one of our most popular manure spreaders meets growers’ need to maximize efficiency as well gives them the confidence that they are complying with ever increasing regulations for protecting the environment.”

The NT460 system has five main components: a GPS receiver, a scale system, an indicator, a USB drive and nutrient tracker software.

The GPS gathers information from satellites to track position and speed of the manure spreader. The information is stored in the indicator. The scale system uses load cells customized to the V-180 spreader that measure the weight and application rate of the manure. The system compares weight and GPS information for detailed feedback.

The indicator displays actual tons per acre and stores information from the GPS and load cells for future use. Operators can set rate tolerances and analyze data in the field if necessary. So growers can see and react to application rates in real time, the indicator has a large readable display and intuitive operation.

With the indicator’s new, patent pending AutoLog™ automatic start/stop function, there is no need to remember to push the Start/Stop button when unloading the V-180 spreader. With the use of a magnetic switch and new software, it is done automatically.

The USB drive on the indicator is used to easily transfer data between the field and a computer. Nutrient Tracker software is an easy-to-use computer program that stores and maps application data for monitoring and management. With the software, growers can easily manage manure application and store or print data, including highly-accurate maps and graphs. They can record the percentage of nitrogen and phosphorous application as well as provide accurate billing for custom application. Data can be exported in multiple formats, including Excel and SHP files.

“The system can reduce costs by minimizing supplemental fertilizer required,” Crouch said. “Furthermore, as farms have converged with expanding residential or protected areas, the DNR, USDA and the EPA have stepped up their interest in monitoring manure applications. With this system a responsible grower can show data of proper application.”

The Roda V-180 from Art’s Way is a dual-axel spreader with an 18-foot box and a 468 cubic-foot capacity.

“The V-180 is one of the most rugged, reliable and productive spreaders on the market,” Crouch said. “It meets producers’ needs for greater capacity, strength and technological enhancements.”

Twin vertical beaters on the V-180 rotate at 420 RPM for uniform spreading of all types of manure. Beaters are easily removable for stockpiling in the off-season. Case-hardened teeth are optional.

“The vertical beaters lift the manure up to ensure very even distribution when compared to similar spreaders,” Crouch said.

The V-180’s double apron boasts dual drive, variable speed and is reversible.

“A reversible apron is very convenient when something other than manure comes in contact with the beaters.” Crouch said.

A hinged slop gate provides for uniform unloading of peaked loads. The gate is hydraulically controlled with driver selectable positioning and is designed to use for both manure and forage. The floor of the V180 spreaders is 1/2 inch of solid virgin poly UHMW for durability, ease of unloading and longer life.

“This floor surface signifi¬cantly reduces friction and keeps loads moving easier,” Crouch said.

Tandem axels on the V-180 spreader improve weight distribution and reduce soil compaction. An installation kit is available to easily convert the box from a pull-type to a truck-mounted model.

The spreader features chemically etched metal to remove all mill scale and contaminants, ensuring better paint adhesion. It has component primer and top-coat for a long-lasting finish.

High Performance 6530 Grinder/Mixer delivers uniform, consistent quality feed improving livestock and poultry growth potential

Achieve supreme feed quality with the high performance 6530 Grinder Mixer from Art’s Way Mfg. Compared to previous grinder mixer models with 8 in. discharge systems and fewer hammers, the new redesigned 6530 Grinder Mixer incorporates features that guarantee it will provide the producer an exceptional, high performing feed grinding mixing system. Our design engineers have heard from the producers and our field sales representatives and implemented features to make the 6530 Grinder Mixer move feed faster with bigger and better discharge capabilities than Art’s Way 5165 and 6520 models and other similar models.

Take control; Adjustable and reversible lower wear plate on the hammer mill improves feed grinding by closing up the distance to the hammers and allows using a larger screen size reducing draw on tractor HP. This adjustment allows optimum spacing for the feed ingredients to be ground efficiently and consistently to the size requirements for the ration mix. Using a large 36 gallon hydraulic tank helps dissipate heat, decreasing overall fluid temperatures which maximizes tractor HP. Make all hydraulic adjustments from a consolidated valve bank equipped with a sight glass level, temperature and pressure gauges for easy monitoring of the hydraulic system. A reduced number of hydraulic hoses simplifies the hydraulic setup of self-contained units and is a much smoother operating hydraulic system from previous models.

controlgrinder

Move more feed faster with bigger, better discharge capabilities.

A redesign of the discharge gate opening to a straight guillotine type with a 12 in. stroke actuator provides a 30% increase in gate opening versus the pivot gate with 8 in. stroke actuator on other models. The producer can expect increased flow and faster discharge of feed.

We have added two additional feet to the discharge auger tube making it 12 ft. in length with maximum extended reach of 25 ft. 5 in. easily reaching over a 20 ft. bin. The 6530 Grinder also provides more flexibility in placement of feed discharge with its additional 60 degree angle height setting on the discharge auger tube cylinder. Compared to other grinder mixers with 8 in. diameter unload systems, the larger 10 in. diameter unload system increases the discharge rate up 100% to drastically reduce time and labor costs.

Attention to details

Detail oriented engineers and product quality managers have included several design changes in the new 6530 Grinder Mixer that result in higher performance, more efficient operation and longer lasting parts. Updates include a spring loaded chain tensioner with idle master idler on the main drive chain, an RC40 chain with idler sprocket on the drive of the mill to the mixer auger, throttle control near the intake end of the auger feeder for added convenience, a hinged access door on lower discharge for easier cleaning and extra windows on left and rear side of the tank for sight access to feed levels in the tank.

Wireless control of discharge operations

The 6530 Grinder Mixer boasts a fully self-contained hydraulic system operated by a wireless remote to control: raise/lower and swing of the discharger auger; open/close of the tank discharge gate; plus start and stop the operation of the unload system. This feature puts the controls in the palm of your hand.

remotegrinder

A tractor hydraulic version is available, using your tractor hydraulics in place of the self-contained unit to run all hydraulic systems. Operational using three sets of two hoses, hydraulic flow is rated at 16 gpm, at 2000 psi.

Electronic scale options are available for precise weight calculations

Equipped with optional scale indicator and load cells provides accurate weight measurements for mixing feed for livestock and poultry.

Results for the producer – fast and efficient, uniform consistency of feed grind

The portable 6530 efficiently grinds feed with a one piece 26” hammer mill that operates 96 4-way reversible knives. Impressed with the speed and the uniformity of the grind obtained with the new 6530 model in recent tests with one of his customers, Ron Bender, Art’s Way Northeast sales representative states “The consistency of the ground product was remarkable.” Test results show that the 6530 Grinder Mixer easily ground 20 tons of feed in about 45 minutes to a micron size of 650 to 750.

What this means for the producer feeding his livestock or poultry is that it not only saves time grinding feed efficiently, but produces a feed that is blended thoroughly and uniformly within the large 165 bushel mixing tank. This provides superior rations and improves the growth potential of his livestock or poultry.

Art’s Way Acquires Universal Harvester

ARMSTRONG, IOWA, January 20, 2014 – With the acquisition of Universal Harvester, Art’s Way Manufacturing Co., Inc. (NASDAQ: ARTW), a leading manufacturer and distributor of agricultural machinery, now offers pickup reels for combines and swathers.

Since the early 1940’s, Universal Harvester has engaged exclusively in the manufacture and sale of pickup reels. The company is based in Ames, Iowa.

“With its history of manufacturing high-quality reels and dedication to customer service, Universal Harvester is a welcome addition, said Brian Crouch, Director of Sales and Marketing of Art’s Way. “This acquisition is highly complementary to our existing operations and product lines.”

Universal Harvester’s current pickup reel, the U-II Series 200, is available in 10-foot to 36-foot widths for Massey, Case IH, Gleaner, New Holland, Claas and John Deere combine headers as well as for most makes of swathers. The reels are used in the US, Canada and numerous foreign countries.

Designed to be both lightweight yet rigid, the UHC U-II reels put less demand on reel lift and hydraulic drive systems while providing a more uniform cutter/bar/tine clearance across the entire header for a closer setting. Longevity and safety were also key factors during the design phase.

• One-piece teardrop-shaped aluminum reel bats provide reliability and maximize strength and overall rigidity of the reel while handling crop more gently to reduce shatter.

• A non-wrapping design with 170-degree flip-over bat action reduces reel wrap, so there is less downtime removing tangled material.

• An improved heat-treated cast steel cam ring and double row mean less time is required for repairs and maintenance.

• Replaceable sealed ball bearings at the pivot points don’t require lubrication, so less time is spent on routine maintenance.

• Unmatched operator visibility helps the user avoid obstructions and reduces chances of damage to the reel. Reel bats are anodized black to prevent light reflection.
